Ginormous Joe secret

Ginormous Jo’s Secret
Written & Illustrated
by S C Cunningham

In “Ginormous Jo’s Secret,” S C Cunningham explains the very link between listening and learning. Though the huge, white, huggable dog called Jo wasn’t sure at first when her mum brought home a cuddly little kitten called Vinnie, she grew to love him with time. Vinnie was loving, playful and made her laugh a lot. Because Jo didn’t want Vinnie behaving like their noisy, shouty, and greedy neighbours, she introduces him to “Liswat,” telling him the great importance of listening and learning from others and the very secret behind her being a clever dog. Does Vinnie now know the meaning of “Liswat?”

REVIEW :

In this book Joe gives out her secret. How it helps her and how beneficial it is.

Vinnie, learns this secret when Joe explains with examples. Not only this is beneficial for them, but also a great lesson for the kids and us parents who read this out to them.

I loved the narration which explained the secret in detail.

REVIEW :

The book is a great way to teach little kids about inclusion of a new family member and their acceptance.

The book would teach them how to be a responsible person to take care and keep safe the new member.

In this book Jo, helps Tom understand that he has to be responsible and give a shoulder to Vinnie. Tom now becomes a great companion for Vinnie.

The chapter brings out a message eventhough people are different they could still care for each other.

Ginormous Joe’s Broken Bark

by S C Cunningham
Illustrations by Scarlett Raven & S C Cunningham

Can a dog be saved by the love of a family?

Can he find his bark to save them from the local thief?

Meet Joe. He’s got the worst owner that dumps him by the road where he is found by the Tuttle family. They take him in, even though he has no bark at all. But he is a very large dog which should help protect the family from the recent break-ins around the neighborhood. But Joe loves to sleep. He stretches out and snores loud, barking while he dreams of chasing rabbits. He just can’t bark while he is awake
.
Will he save the family when a burglar enters the house? Will Joe find his bark to warn them in time?
This delightful story is the first of a series of stories featuring Ginormous Joe. It shows how he becomes part of the Tuttle family. It’s a great read-aloud for families that have recently got a dog and teaches a lesson on how everyone has a purpose.

REVIEW

It’s always great to have a dog as a pet. The amount of love they show on you, the care they take , the little tail wagging as a sign of gratitude all that makes your heart chirpy.

One such story here in this book is that Joe here is a cute , white fluffy dog. Initially with nasty Nik, who doesn’t care a bit for the dog eventhough how much love the dog shows on him. One fine day Nasty Nik drops him off on the highway. Joe unable to react due to the shock. He loses his bark. Nasty Nik mocks at this and leaves.

Joe is devastated and goes on without food water and struggles which is when the Tuttle family finds him and decide to keep him

Joe is best friends with Mary, the little girl but they do not feel bad that he cannot bark. Mrs Tuttle is happy that Joe will be a good watch dog eventhough he doesn’t bark. Will he save the day ? What happens ?

A lovely tale for the little ones. I thoroughly enjoyed reading and I’m sure the little kids will also do.

Ginormous Joe’s Annoying Friend

Written & Illustrated
by S C Cunningham

Do you have a child that has trouble talking to people? Or expressing their feelings?

Here is a story about dogs with the problem of communicating their feelings, and how they solve it together. The Tuttles enjoy walking their dog, Ginormous Joe. But one day, they bring home a new friend, another dog named Mo. Joe and Mo don’t seem to hit it off. She is always ignoring him and not wanting to play. One day, Joe realizes that all he needed to do was reach out and talk. This gave Mo a chance to tell him why she never would play with him. She was shy. The awkwardness between them evaporates, and they become friends, all from finally being brave enough to tell each other their feelings.

This is a great book to show children how to communicate to solve their problems and work through their feelings. It will make a great addition to any child’s home collection or teacher’s read-aloud library.

MY REVIEW :

A good book that shows importance of communication, eventhough if it’s between dogs. Communication plays key role in conveying emotions at the right time.

Joe is the sole owner of all the love at Tuttle’s home. But when aunt decides to go away on a trip, Mo makes her entry which makes Joe sad that he has competition.

Mo tries to impress him in every possible way, but to Joe it appears as interference. So he wishes that she goes away sooner.

But he soon changes his mind and wishes for her to comeback sooner. What incident made him think that way ? Read on…

I loved the illustrations and brief narration which was easy to comprehend.

Review of Dear people, with love and care your doctors #myfriendalexa

BLURB

From time immemorial, medicine has remained one of the most respected professions. Trust formed the unshakeable foundation of the doctor-patient relationship and, for long, doctors were treated next to God.
In recent times, though, this sacred relationship is suffering from an erosion of faith. We often hear discouraging stories of doctors being abused and hospitals vandalised. The narrative is gradually turning negative-a dismal reality for both doctors and patients. We tend to forget that there are many great things happening in the medical world. Today, we are living much longer, we have managed to eradicate many diseases, we have vaccines that prevent our children from dying, life-saving surgeries are being performed while the baby is still in the womb, and we can give the gift of life to someone by transplanting vital organs. Medical miracles are happening every day in hospitals worldwide.

This book is a collection of heartfelt stories by doctors and patients from across the globe. These are stories of triumph, empathy, positivity, loss and, sometimes, failure. It goes one step ahead and captures the experience of people who surround a doctor-the mother of a doctor, a surgeon’s husband and an acid attack survivor-stories that underline that a doctor too is a human being after all. Human resilience can often break barriers, and these stories serve as inspiration to both patients and doctors alike.

Riveting and absolutely unputdownable, Dear Peoplegives an inside view of the world of medicine and hopes to inspire millions to retain faith in this beautiful relationship.

MY REVIEW

📝They say we should never hide things from the doctor and lawyer. A gentle caring relationship is the one between a doctor and a patient. It is only when we open up, the doctor gets the know the complete issue and can help us heal better.
📝A book that gives you a complete picture of what is the day to day life of doctors and view of the scenario from a patient’s point of view. The book will definitely change the way we look at the medical profession.
📝The number of experiences compiled into a single book gives you a clear picture of how each case is handled by the doctors. Some give you the glimpse of struggle, some about new discovery and some about hope.
📝A number of medical terms could be learned from reading through each chapter. The lovely drawings that also give you a glimpse from the patient view.
📝A number of quotes at the beginning of each chapter makes it even interesting. Not only that in order to increase the knowledge of the reader we even have a section that gives you a did you know?
📝A compilation of 34 distinct stories from doctors of different fields of medicine, this is sure to change your perspective of the doctors.
📝The narration and language are lucid and simple making it easy to comprehend. A good book that gives you a whole new perspective of doctors and some experiences that sure would leave you emotional.

Review of sometimes it happens #myfriendalexa

BLURB

What happens when two adults with a vast age difference fall in love?
Gautam is a twenty-five-year-old upcoming professional and Roshni, a senior management member working in the same multinational bank. More than a decade apart in age, they cannot help but feel attracted towards each other.
However, can two people with such a vast age difference be compatible?
Sometimes It Happens explores the fun and turmoil as they fall in love, get laughed at by their friends and then develop cold feet, thinking about the repercussions their age difference could have on their relationship.
They say love is blind. So, will two smart professionals decide to listen to their hearts or will they listen to their mind to avert what may be the biggest blunder of their lives?

MY REVIEW

We know that love is blind. The whole wide world we live in revolves around it. We also know that it is beyond defining boundaries.
The boundary could be religion, region, caste, creed , nationality or whatsoever. But this is an era where we have seen instances of even age and gender not being a subject of doubt.
This story is about a guy(Gautam) ,who falls in love with Roshni of 37 years.
Gautam informs Rohit about this, who explains reality of what would happen because of the age difference, which doesn’t convince him.
Though both are in love they still do have their doubts about acceptance of their relationship by parents.
What would the society be reacting for such kind of situations? Will they be accepted ? What are the challenges they face are clearly explained? I loved the way of writing and narration from the author.
I realised this is a good filmy scripting material.
A good plot that makes people look into the perspective of being open minded about these kind of relationships.
Book bring medium paced and with an interesting story line is a short read. However I felt that the cover could have been better.

Review of Flyaway boy and Shrilok homeless

Flyaway boy :

We live in a society where our kids should either have or follow a passion that has already been established or determined successful. If I would have to explicitly say, a passion that also makes you earn your bread. Anything out from this list is termed different and is not really considered.
Every kid is born with a different talent. We shouldn’t be pooling them into the categories which I said above. If your kid is doing something different, is making him/her happy encourage them and not just try to change their track.
Kabir, here in flyaway boy is a kid of one such kind. He is different in the place he lives and also in the school he studies. He does not fit into any of the categories just like I said above. He is not like his friends and has a different way of thinking. When the entire world is busy with the rat race, he has his own way of doing things. So what’s the result? Kids like him are not accepted in society. Leave the society when having him in the family with parents support is a big question mark.
Realising him being ignored and not having any support, he vanishes. Finding him will now make them understand who he actually is? But is it too late? Did they find him out is the rest of the story.
The book is a short read and can be completed in one shot. The book is a must read by all parents and to kids when they come to a level where they could understand that kids like Kabir need to be accepted, understood and be given support from family and friends.

Shrilok homeless:

A must read for all budding detectives. This book.is the second part in this series. For someone who loved Sherlock Holmes and detective themes stories this book is a sure win win.
The book is comprised of several short stories where Shrilok and his friends solve mysteries.
This was something like an exam paper racket to levels like dealing with terrorist .
It’s a fast paced book but a very quick read. The cases that are dealt make you intrigued and complete it at one go.
For kids who are into detective fiction this book is a great.
The narration is simple and brief . It has hinglish narration a mix of Hindi and English which would make it engaging for Indian readers.

Teddyy Diaper changing mats

TEDDYY CHANGING MATS: PROVIDING YOU A SAFE SOLUTION FOR HYGIENIC DIAPER CHANGES ON THE GO

A lot of us mothers worry about hygiene when we have to change diapers for babies while going out. Today, quite a few nurseries and diaper-changing stations have been set up in common places like airports and malls to give moms a dedicated space for doing that. Even then, for a lot of moms, hygiene still remains a primary concern.
A lot of questions crop up in our mind.
“Will it be clean?” , “Will the place be hygienic?” , “Do they sterilize the area?”, “Was the area cleaned that morning?” or “Is it sanitized?”
These questions can often rob mothers of their peace of mind, and that is where a diaper changing mat comes into the picture.
What is a diaper changing mat?
It is essentially a waterproof, reusable mat (up to one or two times) that can be used like any other mat on changing stations to place the baby on for a diaper change. It is compact as it can be rolled up to be small and kept inside a diaper bag.
So practically this is an apt baby shower gift or a must-have in the gift registry for a newborn.
TEDDYY Changing Mat is a boon to all moms who have to change diapers in public spaces or while traveling. This soft, spongy mat that comes in packs of 10s and multiples, makes for a great addition in every new mom’s diaper bag. Now let me tell you why.

TEDDYY diaper change mats come in packs of 10, 30, 60 and 120.
  • IT’S THOUGHTFUL FEATURES PROVIDE SOLUTIONS FOR ALL YOUR DIAPER CHANGE PROBLEMS

This mat is loaded with features which make it an asset for every mother, especially while traveling when changing diaper becomes a hassle. This could the ideal diaper change mat for you and your baby, as it is compact and easy to carry when you plan outings for a picnic or even long trips.
It is highly absorbent so that even if there are leaks and spills you needn’t worry about your baby getting wet. It has gel technology, which converts the liquid into gel locking it in, making absorption super quick. The mat is perfectly designed with a crisscross pattern to avoid leakages and spills, and it also has a waterproof backsheet, which prevents backsplashes and staining. The top layer is antibacterial, so even if there is a spillage or an unexpected liquid spill, you needn’t worry about bacterial infection. A great, all-in-one solution for your diaper change problems.

  • IT IS MULTIPURPOSE

Not only can it be used as a diaper changing mat, but it also has several other uses. You can use this as a play mat for newborn, or as an extra protective layer for the mattress. If you are a mom who likes to give her baby a good oil massage daily before the bath, this is the right mat for you as it doesn’t let the oil seep on the floor. Also, a great option for tummy time games or reading.
You can also place the mat on the car seat for the baby to lie down. It can also be used as an extra layer of cushioning on the crib as well as in the pram. If you’re taking your baby to a dinner or a party and are worried that you might get your dress wet, then you can use Teddyy to carry the baby in so that your dress remains intact.

  • DECENT PRICING

Priced at Rs 245 for 10 mats, the pricing is decent. Since each mat can be used a couple of times, this seems to be a pretty good buy for your baby.

  • IT’S THE PERFECT SOLUTION FOR DIAPER-FREE TIME

We know that prolonged duration of wearing diapers is not advisable. It is good to give your baby some amount of diaper-free time of about 30 to 60 minutes daily. A more effective way would be to leave them diaper-free in between diaper changes. But what makes us worry during diaper-free time is the fear of getting the floor or the sofa or bed wet. No worries when you have these diaper change mats from Teddyy, diaper-free time is always dry, soft and comfortable.
So, if you are looking for an economical, baby-friendly, easy to carry, hassle-free, hygienic, antibacterial, travel companion solution in the form of a diaper changing mat then TEDDYY mats are the best you can opt for. They also make for a wonderful gifting option for a new mom or even for a baby shower.

Review of where will man take us

BLURB:

The first person who will live to be 150 years old has already been born.
The screen that we peer into will soon be within us.
We could soon be taking happiness pills before breakfast.
The perfect partner might need to be charged before bed.

This is a new world we are walking into. And the man who began this journey won’t be the man who ends this journey. Where Will Man Take Us? Explores the changes technology is bringing about in us-as a society and as a species. What will the next generation turn into, what will it be like, how will the new Adam and Eve live and love?
In this book, Atul Jalan tackles nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, quantum computing and genetics, seamlessly weaving the future of technology with the changing dynamics of human love, morality and ethics.

MY REVIEW:

The book is just not like the usual book that we have come across. A sneak peeks into the past and the future where technology would be taking us is the central theme the book is set. The author’s attempt to make us foresee the future is just brilliant. The book just gives you a refresher course of how technology has grown rapidly and invaded human lives. The book is definitely not a quick read, needs a lot of deep diving if you intend to go in sync with the author.

The author clearly makes us understand that we cannot live in this world without technology. Not even for a shorter period of time, we are gadget-free. This is due to more dependence and also social pressure. The book is divided into five sections

1.the drivers of change

2. the new society.

3. the magic of maths

4. end of history

5. the new man

From Artificial Intelligence to Quantum computing the books has anything and everything you need to know about technology. The book gives you the deeply engrossed feel that would want you to dig more by looking into google. That is majorly the reason why I mentioned the book is not a quick read.

I loved “the filter bubble: Many more of me” wherein the author talks about how we humans love to live with like-minded people which slows down our way of thinking. This is discussed in the second part of the book.

As the chapters progress, we come to know how addictive we are to technology. The author relates a few examples from real life which help us understand how we use technology to create, save and destroy life. The book title is rightly set because it is we the humans who are driving the technology not knowing where we are being taken. With the technological power in hand, we can create so that we progress or also destroy. This is definitely possible with the current scenario we live in.

The book is a complete treasure trove of facts which clearly show the efforts the author has taken to research and put forward.

The book is a must-read as it helps you understand the world you live in and makes you think before you make your future choices. The writing style is simple yet that is enough to keep you intrigued.

The cover design is bright and beautiful with drones. This would be a book that I will definitely refer in the future and makes me understand concepts in a different way. I am definitely having a new perspective on technology after reading the book.

I’m proud of what held me down

The very things that hold you down are going to lift you up.

– Timothy Mouse (Dumbo)

How many times are we being questioned or ridiculed for the choices we make. Many a times people are often pushed into stress to make a choice. People tend to lose their individuality or their voice in making (their) choices to be accepted in the society.

This starts right from the moment the child is born. No no nowadays it even starts with the process of birthing.

People don’t even wait for the natural birthing process then begin and are forced for a c section. If you are stubborn that would still wait for normal delivery you are accused of putting the life of an unborn child into danger. Being four hours into labor and with a strong grit that I’m not going for a c section labeled me a stubborn mom for quite sometime. But the moment I delivered normally after about an extra waiting time of an hour made me happy. I did not care about what people or staff talked about me for the little while I was stubborn, but the end result was worth it.

Next came in the breastfeeding phase. Every mother is unique and knows how to take care of her newborn child. The moment you deliver you have advices pouring in from all corners. People who wouldn’t have even inquired during your pregnancy have all the right to advice you during breastfeeding. Every mother is not blessed with much needed supply.

Some could give what is needed for their child, some could pump more that what is required and are kind enough for them to even donate. Some moms could not but stood strong and continued formula feed. I was initially not happy with my supply. There we go, so many advices, suggestions and what not. I was completely let down. Comments of your child is not getting enough, she needs more kept coming in. Then came my health into picture. I was determined to prove people wrong and most importantly to give my baby what she needed. I read blogs and articles to know what needs to be done to increase supply. Know what, the supply depends only majorly upon your thinking and health has a much lesser role. That was a Eureka moment for me. I started concentrating on my thinking that I can do it. I can supply what my baby needs. I started taking foods that increase supply, I believed in me. That made a change and I was able to exclusively breastfeed for the first six months. That was a major milestone for her and me. I felt overwhelmed and could see my baby doing better. Also knew that nobody in age circle in my family did that and yes it was a proud moment.

These are some instances where I realised the things that let me down, are the ones that held me up.

Book review – HEARTQUAKE

BLURB:

Once upon a time there was a city plagued by greed, corruption and mysterious deaths… A patriotic IAS officer, Vikram, decides to expose a corrupt and powerful minister, Rudra Pratap Rana (aka RPR), during the latter’s visit to the IAS training academy. The video of Vikram asking the minister some highly embarrassing questions in front of a packed auditorium goes viral. Instead of having Vikram suspended from service, a vengeful RPR unleashes violence on the officer’s family, and to continue the torture, RPR gets Vikram posted as the sub-divisional magistrate in Laxmipur—the politician’s backyard. As soon as Vikram joins duty, RPR resumes his vengeance. However, a new drama unfolds when a large number of people start dying of heart attacks across Laxmipur. As Vikram tries to unravel these mysterious deaths with the help of Veda, a cardiologist, and Raghu, a police officer, extreme panic grips the city, which soon leads to riots and pandemonium. Vikram is left with no other choice but to risk his life to get to the bottom of this mind-numbing situation. Join Vikram in this fast-paced thriller as he fights to save Laxmipur from HEARTQUAKE.

MY REVIEW:

I loved the Author’s first book and yes I did wait for his second. Knowing that it is a thriller made the wait even more excited. The protagonist of the book is Vikram, IAS officer who wants to bring in a change in the system, by working in the system.

His friend Rakesh tries to run away from the academy one night, the academy seems like a jail and he decides to run away to fulfill his dream of being a standup comedian. Rakesh bumps into Vikram who tries to convince him, that with a good career he could make way into the dream of being a standup comedian. Rakesh is convinced.

RPR is a corrupt politician visits the academy post which Vikram decides to expose him. IN his first step, they plan for an interview, where Vikram has the Minister embarrassed. Rakesh, on the other hand, records the interview which goes viral within minutes. RPR decides to take revenge not by suspending him but to post him in his territory, Laxmipur and also unleashes violence on his family. Laxmipur is RPR’s backyard where he plans to continue his plans to avenge the embarrassment by Vikram.

The city suddenly is startled where people suffer from massive heart attacks and bleeding from the eye. Vikram works seriously to uncover the mystery. He along with Veda( a doctor) in RPR residence as caretaker work together to uncover the mystery. Vikram now not only has the challenge of handling RPR but also to find why the sudden heart attacks were killing people.

The versatility of the Author is clearly seen once you finish this book as you can clearly see the distinction in plot and the genre is chosen. The transition in this book was smooth. This tightly gripped medical thriller also had little elements of humor and romance. It is highly appreciable that it did not disturb the plot anywhere.

The book gives you a complete picture of how the political situation is and how politicians work. Loved the way how the mystery element was contained till the end. With his writing style already proved in his first book to keep readers gripped, this book is another accolade. The medical terms used in the later parts were something new to learn about. The fact that you learn things from a novel is good too. How people work in the IAS sector is also described in detail, which gives you a sneak peek into the life of an IAS officer.

Book review – Who stole my job

BLURB:

Creative Tech has been one of the most successful IT companies in India during the last two decades. Only that it has started faltering of late. In a challenging and tumultuous business set-up, Marshal Scott, a newly hired American CEO, embarks on a transformation journey that starts on a high note, but soon gets entangled with many unexpected issues.

The employees experience disenchantment with the demanding leadership, frequent policy changes and cultural conflicts. Satvik, a mid-level manager sees the direct implications of these changes that lead to multiple business disruptions and exits of many of his colleagues.

Will things ever be same then again? Can Creative Tech tide over the disruption wave and reclaim its glorious past? What does employment mean for individuals and the corporate in the new digital world? Will the future of work be different from what was perfected after the Industrial Revolution?

MY REVIEW:

A book that lays a strong message that skills are necessary to survive in the field of Information technology. The lucrative salaries might have many eyeballs peeping out, but to be able to get a job like that you will have to keep yourself updated with technology and skills. This does not stop once you get a job. You need to keep updating yourself as newer and new technologies seem to be developed.

The plot here is Creative Tech a successful IT company appoints a new CEO, Marshall. Marshall is competitive and lays down strategies to run the business smoothly. But what happens when there are conflicts coming in? How does he resolve them? A thing to keep in mind is we not only need strategies but also a backup plan or ways of resolving conflicts handy.

Being in the industry for over 20 years, the author sure does narrate the instances that are factual and by someone who knows what happens in and out. People working in the IT industry can relate to it very much because of the life quotes mentioned and insights.

Strategies devised by Marshall seem to be working fine until several conflicts start showing up. Here Satvik, a middle-level manager and someone whom you could say had completely no idea of what “DIGITAL’ meant, was forced to accept the changes due to the digitalization.

The story is being narrated from point of view of different people makes it better for us to know who is able to take in the change, who suffers and who is forced. Satvik having worked for a longer period in the company is now not in a position to switch jobs because of the “SKILL” companies lookout for now.

The characterization has been done well. Each character having a different mindset of the changes that happen. You can finish the book in one go provided you are not affected by the minor disturbances

The language used is simple and easy to understand with not so many complicated terminologies. But I felt the story was stretched longer than it should have at places. A strong message that people need to adapt to changes is the takeaway the author provides the readers.
