8 must watch movies for Valentine’s day – The bloggers league 2022

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. People are busy planning to have the perfect day and make it memorable for their partner.

Though we do say that we love our partners all throughout the year and it doesn’t need a single day to show that off, still the day has its significance and so does what you decide to do.

Even if it’s not a million dollar gift, a small gesture or an act of love will definitely make it more special to the both of you.

We still ain’t out of the pandemic, though we do have all the public places open to visiting, nothing is more enjoyable than making yourselves comfortable at home and getting the vibe going.

I’d suggest taking the day off spend the time just the two of you, doing things that you always wanted to. Sip in a coffee peacefully, making preparation for a good old meal at home of course one that has both your favorites, a nice warm shower and settle in for a good movie.

Here are my favorite picks which I hope you would also enjoy watching on Valentine’s day.

When Harry met Sally

Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan have been best remembered for their roles as Harry and Sally. The movie is proof that communication and humor definitely keeps your relationship going. Absolutely must watch for the realistic dialogues I’d say.

The notebook

Who will forget the iconic rain soaked kiss. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams have shown palpable chemistry in this romantic classic where they’re separated by World War II and reunited later.

Pride and Prejudice (2005)

Matthew McFadden and Keira Knightley version is definitely my favorite adaptation of the novel by Jane Austen. The humor, wit and not to forget to mention about the sexual tension between both leads makes it a great watch for Valentine’s day.

50 first dates

Am one of the die hard fans of Adam Sandler and his movies. This one with him and Drew Barrymore in the lead will absolutely take you on a laughter and a cry roller coaster ride. Imagine a veterinarian falling for someone who has short term memory loss. The movie will guarantee to take you through a varied range of emotions. He will definitely sweep you away in his exhaustive attempts to recreate the first date for her to remember.

You’ve got mail

Who will forget this evergreen movie. I remember this coming up on HBO’S movie list for every Valentine’s Day and also on romantic line ups. Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks team up for another blockbuster. Being rival bookstore owners but unknowingly becoming email pen pals sounds an interesting plot doesn’t it?

Sleepless in Seattle

One more from Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks that makes its way to the valentines day watch list every year. Keeping you thinking ‘ will they or won’t they’ dance throughout the movie and especially for the sweet moment where Sam’s son calls up the radio station where Annie works to find a partner for his widowed father is too cute to not miss and remember when you see this title.

The proposal

I cannot count the number of times I’ve watched this movie over and over. Neither it has bored me nor the people who I’ve recommended this as well. Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds make this one a hilarious and at the same time romantic. A must watch rom-com if you aren’t someone who loves cheesy romantic movies.

P. S. I love you

No Valentine’s Day is complete or comes to an end without thinking of this movie. If you’re a book lover like me this was one movie I loved the adaptation as well. Hilary Swank and Gerrard Butler take you on a tearjerker in this movie where Swank discovers motivating notes from her late husband.

Settle with some wine, scented candles, cozy rug and a remote control to enjoy this Valentine’s Day and you could also go on a movie marathon. Who wouldn’t like an all day lazing around with movies to watch, ordering in food and sipping some wine.

My review

Romcom is usually a genre that doesn’t interest me when it comes to reading books. I love watching movies in that genre but not books. The reason being I find them to be too cliched and kind of like too good to be true instances.

But I’ve read Divya’s other two books and when I came to know that her recent release was a romcom I wanted to give a try. Trust me that maybe if she writes more in the same genre I might also think of changing my opinions about reading that genre.

The book according to me was the kind I could finish in one go. One because the plot was intriguing, loved the characterisation and three was the mixture of elements that Divya added to keep the reader engaged.

The dialogues are penned quirky and definitely would leave you with a stomach hurts feel when you actually imagine the scene visually. I would attribute this specifically to the one’s that belong to Abhimanyu.

He is one character who will make you fall head over heels in love. Sitara the heroine is a go better. Her character portrayal is as such she is someone who will see that she gets what she wants.

The way astrology has been brought into this plot and how it’s handled sure is commendable. No sentiments hurt but it sure plays a crucial role in making Sitara manipulate by choosing dates favourable for Abhimanyu. I mean how cool is that huh!..

So does she get what she wants in her career? That definitely needs one to read the book to see where she lands.

The language as in her previous books is pretty simple and easier to comprehend. And totally no blah blah romantic dialogues that are unbelievable, Thank god.

Also love the cover design that equally portrays what should you be expecting when you read the book.

Author bio

Divya, often called ‘ baal ki dukaan’, struggled with unruly, thick, curly hair for over two decades before she realized her hair looks best when it’s left uncombed! She loves using her curls to hold the numerous pens, pencils and paintbrushes she needs while she’s writing, doodling or working. She gets her best creative ides when she’s hanging upside down, doing anti-gravity yoga. If you’re in Bangalore, you might spot her (and her distinctive curls!) with her husband Vivek. Their quest to eat bizarre foods from around the world features in her first book, Dare Eat That. Follow her at: http://www.divyaanand.in
