MY REVIEW

Resilience, vulnerability, and emotions are delved into deeply in each of these 31 chapters in this book which is a combined effort of 31 remarkable authors. The book cannot be just an anthology, but it is a combined effort of 31 authors who have shared their heartfelt experiences and their learnings that will help people sailing in the same boat.

We live in a generation where people are quite hesitant to acknowledge emotional issues. Not only in us adults but also gives insights into how to handle emotional wellness in kids separately.

I’ve seen a lot of videos of Dharman which let you understand empathy and situations that make you understand that human emotions are not just feeling but much more than that.
Having known a few of the authors personally and what they’ve gone through, it is truly a commendable effort for many of them to come forward, share their experiences, and their way of life to deal with emotions. That thought of this life lesson will help many who are like us are applauded.

There are two things, one is dealing with ourselves and the emotions, the latter is emotions and the people with whom we deal. The book helps you understand different situations involving parents, kids, and in-laws.
There is no human being without a problem, no human being who is always happy. Everyone at some point of time in their life would have faced a standstill, a moment, or a period where they needed help, and didn’t know what to do or how to come out of it.
Every chapter where the authors share their life experiences, especially in a way that they connect with the readers. In most self-help books where people discuss emotions, we often see a preachy narration. This is where the book stands out, the connection they make with the readers will surely help in uplifting.

A unique synergy is a blend of personal experiences with professional insights. It would be right to call this anthology a holistic resource that will serve as a beacon for those who are struggling and for those who love to read and learn from experiences. The book will be a great option as a gift to someone whom you know who needs the courage and uplifting to move ahead.

Announcement of Anthology – Brave Inked Emotions

As soon as the calendar points to March, you begin to see the internet brimming with information about addressing women as their central focus. Though International Women’s Day is a moment to reflect on the progress and the challenges that still lie ahead, it is more than just a celebration it is a call for action to accelerate gender parity.
When we say emotion it not only means happiness, excitement, surprise, and sadness, but there is much more. And handling them in a better way needs a lot of life lessons. I am happy at one moment, sad the next and jump out in excitement. Am I responsible for these emotional changes and the responses that I give out? Or is there an external factor that is responsible for triggering these emotions from inside me?
Not all of us are open about the emotions that we feel inside us. It is always wise to experience the emotion and let it out. Piling it up inside will not only prove bad to yourself but also to others when suddenly it bursts out all at once like a bottle of champagne. Emotions need to be channeled well and for that emotional wellness needs to be taught from an early age.

This is precisely the theme of an Anthology that I’m about to introduce to you, “Brave Inked Emotions” by 31 authors who experienced emotions and handled them with greater strength. Guided by Roma Gupta Sinha who has a lot of accolades to her name including successful book launches this book is a gift to women across the world on this Women’s Day.

Stepping out of our comfort zone might break us but can that be handled smoothly? Yes. This book will guide you through an emotional journey of 31 different experiences that helped them come across the river of emotions that they braved ahead of and would love to share with the world what worked for them and how it can help you.
The chapter that I contributed was specific to handling emotions in kids. As a parent of two, I had different experiences in handling both my kids when it comes to handling their emotions. Parenting them both during their early days made me understand that each finger in the hand is different. That’s when I decided I would handle them differently and teach them emotional wellness from an early age.

I’d urge you to pick a copy, read it, and feel the emotions. This book will want you to share it with your girlfriends. The book will bring a change in each one of us in how we handle emotions. DO give it a read and share your experiences.

Two must read picture books for kids this November

With kids having vacations during thanksgiving we often look out for a long of options to keep them engaged. Though we do have a lot of options to keep them engaged in terms of activities like craft or painting.

But reading books can be done to keep them involved and transport them to the world of imagination. How many of us read to kids before they sleep? If you haven’t done I’d urge you to start doing it and see the wonderful changes it promotes in children.

Here are two books I’d recommend reading this season.

The boy who breathed under water by Izzy Reez

A young boy lies down on his bed gazing around his room. As we know young minds are curious a thought crawled into his little busy mind.

He wanted to know how would it be if he has super powers. But he wasn’t sure which one he’d wanted. So decided to give a try to check out some and then finalize. A mysterious genie comes out just like making the whole situation magical.

He suggests tryouts of powers so that he can finalise the one the boy chooses after a time of one week. The boy decides to try out as many as he can like being invisible, being able to lift up things, being able to breathe underwater, being able to fly, being able to control with his mind, turning into animals.

Though he had imagined having these powers they came with their own disadvantages. By the end of the week he felt that there wasn’t one he chose to decide upon.

The genie appeared and gave him a valuable life lesson that as a kid him playing and pretending would be lot more fun than to have magical super powers. The boy understood the reality and immediately chose to live the moment cuddling the cat.

The book sends out a lovely message to young readers to enjoy the life at the moment. Also helps understand to be happy with whatever we have, because something that we long for and get could have their disadvantages.Having magical powers can seem fascinating but not more than their playful attitude and curious little minds that finds an idea of play and pretending.

The illustrations wonderfully support the text and makes it much more engaging.

The kind who didn’t like snow by Jocelyn Porter and Michael S Kane

Who doesn’t love snow?? Those tiny white flakes bring in a lot of joy cause it’s the season of celebration. But here is a King who dislikes snow. The book brings out a lovely little story of why the King Mark hated snow and how the wizard Bertram Ebenezer Rufus
Togtangle shortly called Bert made the King love snow.

Bert and his friend Broderick a bookworm had a lot of fun. Bert was friendly and helped children and people in the village. Broderick was living in Berts book of spells. He’d always wanted to read from the book nd one day he did and he turns into a big squish green bookworm.

Bert doesn’t have space to accommodate Broderick so he asks the King and he readily agrees to make Broderick the Royal Librarian and gives him place to stay in the library.

One fine day it starts snowing and King Mark gets really annoyed. Bert uses his magic spell but it makes situation worse what does he do later to make the King love snow? Read the book to know what he does.

A short read but definitely a fun one. The illustrations are bright colourful and definitely promising for young readers to keep them glued.

Loved the conversations especially the ones between Broderick and Bert. The book definitely sounds an awesome plot for pretend play.

What I loved

This story is dedicated to the volunteers of Hospital
Radio Plymouth who broadcast musical messages of love
to patients, families and friends whether it’s snowing or sunny.
Nothing stops HRP broadcasting every day of the year.

I take in a deep breath before walking into my family’s house. Our brick home is around a thousand square feet. My father says since it is on the smaller side, it takes a lot less money to heat and cool. The back of the house is like a forest, and the front of the house is on a dirt road with lots of gravel. As soon as I reach the front door, I notice the stench of beans lingering in the air, making the room smell as if a skunk has run through it.

“You’re late,” my brother, Theodore, says. “You know dinner is at six.”

He shoves my arm. He has on dark clothing that mirrors my own.

“Whatever,” I say, rolling my eyes. Another stupid rule. “It’s almost eight.” I glance at the brown clock on the wall. “Shouldn’t you be done?”

“We had to stop what we were doing and watch the box,” he says, then he gulps down a bottle of water.

His Adam’s apple moves in and out, while the bottle crinkles in his hand.

“Yes, the announcements came early.” My father rises from the dining room table. “I’m sure you heard them.”

He walks to the living room where I am.

“I did.” I lower my eyes.

“Where were you?” Mother asks. “We were worried.”

“I know, and I’m sorry, but I’m fine. I watched the announcements from the supply store.”

I know they worry about me, but I also know they won’t ask how I ended up at the supply store, or ask why my jeans are dirty. There is a more pressing question they want to ask.

“Did you see her?” my mother asks.

“Yes,” I reply.

Now that is what they really care about.

“How was she?”

“I guess as good as she can be.” I shrug.

“What does that mean?” my mother asks with a frown. “You’re not giving me any details.”

I sigh. It was the same questions every time I go to the wooded area. Another sigh follows because my heart saddens, seeing how old my mother looks. She is only in her fifties, but I can see the gray strands in her dark hair instantly becoming grayer every time we discuss this. Even when I bring back food, my mother is too tense to eat. Day by day she is growing thinner.

“Emma, answer your mother,” my father says, looking at me with slanted eyes.

“If you want to know how she is, why don’t you go and see her yourself?” I snap back. I’m tired of the theatrics. But it was a stupid question. I know why they can’t go. They aren’t strong enough or fast enough.

“You know your mother moves too slowly. She would never make it there,” my father says, echoing the very words in my head.

Just then, Sam heard a loud knock on her front door. She sat still, thinking maybe the knock had actually been on the apartment door next to hers. An emaciated old hippie named Skip lived there, and he received all manner of strange visitors. It was not uncommon for one of them to knock on Samantha’s door by mistake. When Skip wasn’t hiding behind his dark curtains, he spent most of his time sitting in a lawn chair on the stoop smoking nonfiltered cigarettes and petting his elderly cat Mrs. Kush Kush.

The knock came again. No, that was definitely on her own door. Who in the world could that be? She sucked in a breath as she remembered Henry and his bizarre statement about knowing their future. Could he have found out where she lived? Not that it would be hard. Samantha was pretty sure you could find anyone you wanted on the internet. The knock came yet again, a little more insistent this time. Still, she didn’t move. It was Sunday, almost noon. She wasn’t expecting anyone. This had to be some stupid door-to-door salesperson or maybe a religious nut just out of church and all fired up. Or it’s a crazy, psychic nut who’s obsessed with you, she added in her mind, choosing not to voice that out loud and somehow make it come true. Not that she was superstitious but why not play it safe, just this once? She wasn’t going to answer it. They’d go away in a minute.

The knock sounded for a fourth time, even louder this time. “Dammit,” she swore and threw the blanket off her body. She was annoyed enough now that she was able to tamp down any fear she might have been feeling a moment ago. Samantha lumbered up and stomped into the living room so loudly she probably made the pictures rattle in the apartment below her. She paused at the door and looked down at herself, noticing her breasts were about to come tumbling out of the top of the red shirt she’d been wearing the night before, which was stained and wrinkled. Her throat was on fire. Her mouth tasted like she’d eaten a raw dragon liver, and she could only imagine what her hair must look like.

Samantha yanked the shirt up as high as it would go. She briefly thought about quickly freshening up, or at least brushing her teeth, but then she might miss the chance to read the riot act to this jackass pounding on her door. And if it was Henry Hyena, she was going to make it perfectly clear that he was creeping her the hell out and he needed to stop. Sam was going to make this fool pay for dragging her out of bed—well, off the bedroom floor, anyway—on what should be a very relaxing Sunday. The knock came again.

Damn it! It’s my first day off in three weeks. I’m SO not listening to a sales pitch about satellite TV! This asshat is getting a piece of my mind!

Samantha unlocked the door and yanked it open. Everything she’d been planning to say froze in her throat as she stared up into the eyes of the man at the door.

“Nice shirt,” said Derek, grinning like a Cheshire cat. And Samantha vomited all over his shoes.
